Privacy
Folio is built so your files stay yours. Short version: indexing and search happen on your Mac, and nothing about your files is sent anywhere.
What the app reads
- Names, sizes, dates and kinds of files in the folders you include, plus the “Where from” and download information macOS saves with downloads.
- Text inside PDFs, plain-text documents and screenshots, so search can find words in them. Other images only when you ask Folio to extract text.
- Folders you browse, read straight from disk when you open them.
What the app stores, on your Mac only
- Its index and extracted text in ~/Library/Application Support/Folio/, readable only by your user account.
- Settings in the standard macOS preferences, and your license in the macOS Keychain.
What the app sends
- License activation, checks and deactivation to Dodo Payments’ license service: your key and the name “Folio Mac”.
- Update checks to folio.macmuse.app/appcast.xml.
- No analytics, no telemetry, no crash reports, and never file names or contents.
This website
No cookies, no analytics and no third-party scripts. The thanks page reads your license key from the page address in your browser and never sends it anywhere. Purchases are handled by Dodo Payments under their own privacy policy.
